Gradara and its Fortress

The town of Gradara stands in the hills of the region Marche, approximately 142 m above the sea level, on the borderline with Romagna (but fortunately a treasure of Marche property).

Gradara is identified with its fortress in which is enclosed a heritage of a great value. The castle was the home of the most important families of the Middle Ages and Renaissance: Malatesta, Sforza, Borgia and Della Rovere, and was the scene of important historical events. The walls are also another characteristic feature of the city: they are spaced out with square towers and provided with walkways that were used to guard the castle. These walkways, still viable, allow to admire a magnificent panorama.
